Dell driver questions..

Hi,

I will be receiving my Dell Latitude 6430u soon, and I want to do a clean install (either Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 8, not sure yet). Which drivers should I use? I can access the driver download section, and for most drivers it offers a driver as a self extracting executable, and in all cases there is also a Dell Update Package version. Can I use the Dell Update Package executable on a fresh OS install to install the driver (and any applications that come with the driver)? Is there actually a difference (besides one being a complete installer and the other one simply the OEM's installer) between both types of install?

Thanks!

-Paul

Hi Sujatha,

thanks for your reply. Just wondering, can I use the 'Dell Update Package' drivers on a fresh install? Example:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-6430u-ultrabook?driverId=XGPWM&osCode=W764&fileId=3171545383&languageCode=EN&categoryId=VI

This page offers a 'Hard-Drive' file format driver and a Update Package for Microsoft® Windows® file format driver. Can the last one be used on a clean install, or are these identical?

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

After fresh installation of the Operating system, executable drivers have to be installed in the order given in the link below for best performance of the system:

To get the exact drivers for your computer, Click on the following link and enter the system service tag:

Hi Paul,

You should install ‘Hard Drive’ file format as you are installing the driver for the first time after Operating system installation.

good evening,

Don't use 8. I am so unhappy with my Dell Inspiron with Windows 8. I have complained about the bad mouse control and problems with the DVD player not to mention the Windows 8 with my software. Dell ALWAYS disconnects without even hearing what the problem is!!!!! I asked to put my computer to Windows 7 so I can have a working computer, but they always disconnect me. This in my opinion is a terrible company with no support. The first time I was invited to pay for more computer insurance without them dealing with the original problems. I was willing to pay for Windows 7 even though I have a Windows 7 computer...and they disconnect. What is the problem. Not one e-mail or phone call was dealt with.

I worked for United Airlines and they are supposed to have a discount. Mine was $1.00....and no service. I am posting on the AFA newsletter. This is not a company to work with.
