Dell Latitude e6540 Bluetooth problem

I have installed windows 8.1 on my new dell laptop using the drivers from dell.com. On the specs of my laptop, it is written that it has bluetooth. However, I tried different drivers, also from intel for the Intel centrino N6300 but none of them is working and I can't see the bluetooth on the device manager.

Can you tell me how to define it ?

The bluetooth is enabled from the bios. Unfortunately, I can't open the laptop because it is a corporate one.

I added a printscreen from my device manager, This shows my Network cards and the bluetooth isn't included. Additionally I tried the drivers for the wireless cards you mentioned but still bluetooth doesn't work.

This is a print screen of the Intel centrino card details from the device manager, and here you can see that the bluetooth is enabled. Therefore I am not sure what should I do to use it ?

Hi Tornado90,

Thanks for the screenshots. Unfortunately the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card installed in your system is not a Bluetooth capable card. Check out full card specifications at the link below.

Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300: Product Brief

An alternative card, compatible with your system would be the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, Please find the details of this card at the following link.

Hello Tornado90,

Thanks for the post. If Bluetooth was working on your system prior to the upgrade I would suggest first making sure the BIOS setting is enabled / BIOS is up to date with the latest released on the support site.

If comfortable doing so, try physically removing / reinstalling the wireless card to confirm good seating.

The E6540 was available with a few wireless cards compatible with Bluetooth. If either the Intel 6235 or Intel 7260 wireless cards are installed I would also suggest updating to the latest Bluetooth application available from the downloads page. If Bluetooth has never worked, or if one of these cards was not installed from order, check the wireless card found in the device manager, a combo wireless card will be required to be installed in this system. Simply searching for the specs of the wireless card online should let you know if it’s a combo card / capable of connecting to a Bluetooth network.

Thanks for the reply. This is actually weird, because the buying specs said it supports bluetooth.

Hi Tornado, this seems to be a general issue with the E6540 and W8.1. I bought the E6540 recently with W7 Pro, upgraded the O/S to W8.1 Pro and then Bluetooth does not appear in the device manager under Network Adapters. I am on the latest download status as of March 2015. My BIOS is hence latest version A13 with Bluetooth enabled. I believe W8.1 is not compatible with either of the HW or previous W7. I could of course buy a Bluetooth USB. But really, this should work, strange Dell cannot fix a functional driver.
