Dell Studio 1737 Power Problems

Hi All,

I'm just looking for a little bit of advice. My laptop, the Dell Studio 1737 has stopped starting up. I have a feeling this is down to either the battery or charger, but I'm not sure which. I'm willing to buy either as a replacement, although I'm hoping someone here will recognise the symptoms and hopefully saving me from buying both...

1. The charger seems to work when plugged in. The blue light around the cord is lit and remains constant, there's no flickering or sign of this not receiving power.

2. When plugging this into the laptop, the white LED above the charging port will flash for a brief second then remain dark. No amount of twisting or adjusting the charger while plugged in changes this. This same response happens whether the battery is plugged in or not. Unplugging and then plugging back in the charger has the exact same effect.

3. The battery LEDs don't light no matter what. Even plugging in the charger won't cause these to light up.

4. The laptop won't start up at all. Other than the same flicker of light from the LED above the charging port, there's absolutely no activity or sound when pressing the power button.

I suspect it's the charger as I assume the laptop would start without the battery and just the charger plugged in?

I'm not so sure. If anyone could provide any information at all as to what you think the problem might be, I'll really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I am having the EXACT SAME ISSUE with the same model laptop.  Does ANYONE know whats going on?

Won't start with or without the battery.  Checked the AC adapter, and it's working fine.  Removed the charging circuit and I have power through the connection.  Out of ideas other than swapping out a mobo, with may or may not work.

I have the same problem with my 1737. I have sent for a new charger/power cord to see if that will help. I have tried the trick others have suggested on other sites (remove battery and power cord, hold on/off button for 1-2 minutes, replace battery) but that has not worked. I'm worried it's the motherboard. I'll let you know if I find out anything that will help.
