Back up your data and replace the HDD. It is on the way out.

Hi,

The disk will be around 20 gig, 4200 rpm. You can replace it with a faster and bigger one. When you change it, dont forget to change over the adapter on the pin end.

Thanks Aussie,
Can you break it down to "Upgrading hardware for dummies" so that I can understand?
(I don't know much, other than how to turn the power on)
Step by step? I was under the impression that Laptops/notebooks were not upgradable.
Feel free to endorse any product.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you go to the product support tab above, you should find a manual. Take out the battery, and unplug all leads. Turn upside down. The HDD is on the left. Remove the screw from under it. With the screw taken out, lift the cap up. ( about 4mm, there is a slight gap to get your finger nail in ) Now you can pull it out using the raised part of the end cap. Now the end cap will unscrew, 2 scews. At the other end is an adapter that will pull straight off. If you look at the new one you will see the difference. Put the parts on, and re-fit. I would look for a disk on price and warranty, you wont find much under 40 gig, and the speed is another thing. A faster disk will speed up the computer, but reduce battery life. Check the manual, and there may be a trap. The screws that hold the cap on often come loose and jam the disk. If so re-post. I use a " 0 " pozi screwdriver.
