Disable touch pad
I wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.
Your help would be appreciated. Jan

Hi janhooper.
Since the driver is not listed in the device manager, I suggest that you install the driver from the link below in compatibility mode:

Download the R270497.exe from the link above and double click on the file and extract it on the desktop in a folder. Look for setup file in the extracted folder. Right click ‘.exe’ file and click ‘Properties’. Click “install in compatibility mode’. Click on Application and select ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’. Next, click on ‘Troubleshoot Program’. Click on Program worked in earlier versions of Windows. Click on ‘Windows 7’.Click on ‘Start the Program’. Do not hit ‘Next’ until the installation completes. Once the installation completes, click on ‘Next’.
Next open the charms bar by moving the mouse to right hand corner of the screen and in the search box type ‘Dell Touch pad’ and then from the list of results click Dell Touchpad. Click on ‘Device select’ and check the option ‘Disable Touchpad/ Pointing Stick when External USB mouse is present’.
Revert for further assistance.
