Display error from loose cable?

Hello forum -
I've got an Inspiron 8600 - about 18 months old.  Over the past month or so there has been a yellow translucent bar (corresponding to the extra width of the wide screen) flickering over my display.  It's become more consistant as time goes on.  I suspect some sort of loose or failing cable, because it will temporarly go away or flicker if I nudge the display on its hinges.
I find it curious, however, that it only affects that specific part of my screen.  I've had earlier issues with this same part of the screen - see my posts regarding this issue:

Does this seem like a loose cable?
Do this yellow bar, and the white one in my earlier posts sound like the same problem?

Not sure if I'm brave enough to take the thing apart, but I'm not made of money either...

Thanks!

to me it sounds like a loose cable or bad inverter.  Easy way to do it is to reseat the cable.  I take it the laptop out of warranty.  It is relatively easy to take apart the LCD assembley...biggest danger is breaking the front lcd cover (what u see around lcd when looking at it).  If u want me to assit ya in it please let me know

I agree that it is probably a loose cable, but does anyone have an idea why it would affect my diplay in such a specific manner - just that last inch on the right hand side? Seems weird. I probably will take the thing apart - I've looked at the service manual on line and it seems doable. But not until I'm back home and can back up - I didn't bring my USB HDD. In reading the preparatory info (ie, disconnect power, remove battery etc.) it said to remove the HDD. Is that necessary to just pop off that top little plate that covers the cable?
Thanks!

Hi,

I've a different display problem with mine Inspiron 510m.

When I turned it on this morning, the display of the monitor is very dim which I cannot see any thing clearly, I have to plug in my desktop monitor to it to view/use the laptop. Please advice what is the cause of it and what I need to do to resolve it? Could it be the back light of the LCD of the laptor is gone and need replacement? I have had this laptor for 14 months only, the warranty is out by now so I also wonder how much it would cost for me to get it fix.

Thanks in advance :)

okay, for your problem dim.  Does it display properly on the monitor...IE not dim??  If it shows clearly, then there is no problem with the onboard/video card (if u have one)  The problem is probably the inverter...tho I reccomend reseating the cable.  When I trouble shoot this problem that is what I do.  Also look at the connectors on the mb and the LCD itself.  If they are corroded...that can cuase trouble..tho I suspect an inverter.  Now, I do know a place where u can buy the invertor seperately and they are pretty reputable and guaruntee their parts.  I am no way associated with them..and found them while researching to replace my Inspiron 4150 Laptop keypad.  I am not sure of the tos for this website to post links, but if u interested after trying the steps I have told u... we can find a way to let u know the addy.  Good Luck :)
