Display resolution with new driver

I downloaded the "new" driver for the ATI RAGE Mobility 128 and can't use any resolution other than 1400x1050 (too small) or 640x480 (too large). Also, the control panel/display/settings thinks my display is a generic television, which may be part of the problem. Can someone tell me how to get 800x600 resolution? Driver version is M6.31.62
