Docking port error - computer is not docked
I have an Inspiron 8600 that is connected to a docking port when it is not mobile. I am now getting an error message that "The computer is docked and only battery is detected. This can happen if the power adapter is missing, the power cord is unplugged, or the computer is not properly connected to the docking station. You should undock, redock, attach a power adapter, or plug in the power cord."
It is not in the docking port and I have tried starting with the power cord plugged in or not plugged in. Nothing is happening!
What should I do for this? :smileysurprised: I have a presentation tomorrow and I rather not have to lug my docking station. Thanks!

I'm currently having this same problem with an Inspirion 8600, and it seems to be getting progressively worse and is becoming a certainty when removed from the docking station. It boots up through that first basic system screen, I get no XP loading at all. It just immediately goes to a black screen with white lettering telling me that the "computer is docked" and to hit "F1 to shutdown".
It won't even allow me to the F2 into bios at any point in the boot proccess. Which is amazingly frustrating, as getting into the bios is a little like opening the hood of your car. Maybe you won't be able to do anything in there to fix the problem, but at least you look like your doing something.
Yes, I'm very sure I'm undocking correctly.
This problem first happened when using projector (Dell).

If I boot it up undocked _with_ the power adaptor then unplug the power adaptor after Windows starts then it runs on the battery just fine.
If I boot it up undocked _without_ the power adaptor I get the error message and have to shut it down and reboot.
I checked the BIOS during startup and it says that it is undocked but if I continue from that point I get the error message about the computer being docked but only on battery power.
Has anyone seen a fix for this? Thanks for any help you can give.
