It is in Device manager, under "other Devices". Error is that it cannot find drivers, I have also treid to search/download from Dell Site. I have Windows 7 32b
None of these work, keep getting "Authentication failed. The Dell HSPA Mobile Brooadband Mini Card cannot be installed on this computer, please contact Dell support for further information"
2.Create a new temporary user account(with admin privilege),login to the system with new user account and then try installing the driver.
Let me know if this helps.
Note:While updating BIOS,AC adapter should be plugged in,Battery should be adequately charged(more then 10%) and all external peripherals(USB devices) should be disconnected from the system.
Please post a screen shot of Device Manager(expand Network Adapter and Other Devices). Please check and post back the hardware Id of the WWAN card(right click on card, select Properties, select Details,in drop down select hardware Id).
Also may I know in which region you're using your system? Did you try installing driver with new user account?
I've checked and I cant find any other driver for DW5550 WWAN card.To rule out any issue with the hardware(card),if possible try checking the card on a different system.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and if you’re facing the same issue as mentioned by Young_Clint, please try reseating the Wireless card. Please click on the below link which has service manuals where you can remove and reseat the Wireless card. http://dell.to/1dFtXxL Type in the Service tag, click on option Manuals and download the manuals on your computer. Once the reseating of the Wireless card is done then please download the driver on the computer by clicking on the below link. http://dell.to/18Js5jI
Please install the drivers and restart the computer again and check if this fixes the issue.
Hello I had this exact same issue, not sure if it relates to your problem as this is an old thread, but in my case, I used the DW5550 out of my Latitude 5520 and installed it in my Latitude 5530, when trying to install the application/drivers i received the same error. The WWAN that im using is an Ericsson, and the drivers are platform locked, ie. you cant use a WWAN card from the Latitude 5520 in a Latitude 5530 or can you?
Well, the truth is you can, however you need to reverse engineer the MSI and extract the drivers, i'm not going to go into detail on how to do this in this post, but should you require the drivers for the DW5550 that will not work on any platform (Well the ones of tested) you can reply to this post.
Obviously this is not supported by Dell, but platform locking a driver file in my opinion is unnecessary.

Hi Young_Clint,
Welcome to the Community,
May I know the Windows version installed and error message you're getting while trying to install the driver(if any).
Also check and confirm if DW5550 WWAN is getting detected in Device Manager(Other Devices).
Thank You

Try this Dell Wireless 5550 HSPA Mini Card driver: lt.dell.com/.../lt.aspx
If it does not get installed, try the previous versions given on the same link(click on drop down for Previous Versions).

1) If it is saying authentication failed, try running the installation as administrator.
2) I don't think you need it for the driver installation, but do you have the SIM card?

Hi Young_Clint,
Two things you may try:
1.Update BIOS and then try to install the driver: lt.dell.com/.../lt.aspx
2.Create a new temporary user account(with admin privilege),login to the system with new user account and then try installing the driver.
Let me know if this helps.
Note:While updating BIOS,AC adapter should be plugged in,Battery should be adequately charged(more then 10%) and all external peripherals(USB devices) should be disconnected from the system.
