E6400 Windows 8??

The Dell Latitude E6400 isn't on their list of Windows 8 supported models :emotion-6:

I was thinking about getting 8 before the sale ended, but this stopped me.

Is there some way to get everything working with the new OS?

98 % of everything on the E6400 works natively with the WIN8 Media.

There are a few Caveots.

If you are upgrading VISTA Install Service pack 1 the full download and reboot.

Then install Service pack 2 full download and reboot.

UNISTALL Any Wireless and Bluetooth Drivers BEFORE installing 8.

Thanks for fast reply.

It is not the ATG or XFR.

It has Vista SP2

A little bit lost with drivers...

I don't see any for 8, which makes sense because it's not supported.

Second link is a huge list and I'm not sure where to start.

Do I use older drivers, or something for different models? Is there 1 download with everything needed?

Intel recommends uninstalling all wireless software applications before upgrading to Windows* 8. You might see popup messages requiring you to uninstall Intel wireless software during the OS installation.

Many of the pieces of hardware Are Included with the windows 8 Disc.  Some will require Vista or WIN7 Drivers

AFTER installing 8.  The reason you want Vista SP2 is that you can upgrade and keep things rather than have to totally reinstall.

YOU WILL LOSE FACTORY RESTORE IF YOU UPGRADE.  So what you do is Clone your old drive to a new one and upgrade the new drive.

Keep your old drive as a backup offline.   An Apricorn SATA WIRE makes this very easy.

Would everything be OK then if upgraded?

Windows 7 or vista drivers be accepted by windows 8?

Links to 3rd party drivers that would work?

I thought I'd get the downloadable version of the new OS because it's cheaper.

So I won't have any thing that would come with the disk.

No drive cloning cord either, so I'm extra wary of attempting of installing 8 on an unsupported machine.

Has anyone been successful with installing Windows 8 on the E6400 ?

Any problems with native windows 8 drivers?

Hopefully I could get all the features working, including the FN function keys and webcam.

thank you.

This is not the step by step WINDOWS 8 on any machine anywhere support forum.

WIN7 or Vista Drivers may need to be used where WIN8 drivers are not native or available.

There are NO Guarantees.

YOU WILL LOSE FACTORY RESTORE IF you upgrade so you should consider cloning your original drive to a

new one then upgrade that drive.

If you do a clean install the only things not recognized are the Chipset and Broadcomm USH.

I would update the bios to the latest version since windows 8 is not supported for bios updates.

The other way to go about this is to get a new hard drive and try windows 8 on a clean drive.

That way if you don't like it you can swap back.
