Hi,
Since you're using Windows 7 try starting your system up in Safe Mode to check the drivers. (I'm assuming you're using hard drives that already have Win7 installed on them, but the way you phrased your statement).
If that doesn't work, try going into your System Setup (BIOS) to make sure the system is correctly reading the hard drive. (You should see make & model information about the hard drive). You may also want to make sure the hard drive is one of the boot options in the current set up for BIOS.
You can reset the BIOS to factory defaults in case the previous owner had changed any settings. Hopefully that will clear up whatever the issue is that keeps you from being able to boot from different HDDs.
Let us know what you find out when trying Safe Mode and resetting BIOS. If neither works we'll see what else we can suggest to help you.
