Error Checking

Question

Every time I try to run on my new laptop (one month old) the Error Checking, it simply doesn't not start after I turn off my computer.The steps that I have been taking are:a) click Computerb) right click the hard drive ( C )c) click propertiesd) click Tools (then Check Now)On my previous laptop ( XP ) it used to work just fine. I have been trying to 'maintain' my computer like once per week running the Disc defrag, Disc Cleanup and of caurse Mac Afee with Windows Defender.But the Error Checking is not working as I said above.My laptop is Dell, XPS M1530 with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 installed.Thank you for your answers. :womanhappy:   PS: should I telephone Dell XPS support or it is something that I may 'fix' it myself

How are you shutting the M1530 off? When running Disk Check, select Restart from the OFF menu.

How can I run the Dell Diagnostics please?   ...and the other member, to shut my laptop for the nigh (and also to run the error disk), I click the Start buttom then the very first thing that says that Saves My Session.... I even tried to use the Shut Down but never the Error Check started   But I would love to know how to turn on the Dell Diagnostics ( I feel embarrassed now by not knowing my computer)

press f12 when booting up and select from the menu.

a better tool to check your hard drive can be found on your hard drive manufacturer's website.

if other things are failing in your windows, you can reinstall your windows.
