Error Code 2000-0142
I need major help!!!
I have a Dell XPS M1530 running Windows 7 Ultimate. My laptop crashed the other day and ever since it won't startup, it gets to the windows loading screen then flashes a blue screen and restarts. I have run all of the Windows Startup repair utilities which come back saying there is no solution that it can find, memory diagnostics report no problems too. I ran the BIOS diagnostics test and it came back with the following message:
Error Code 0142.
Msg: Error Code 2000-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 1 - Self Test Unsuccessful. Status: 71
Does this mean that I am going to have to buy a new hard drive for my laptop and if so, is there any way to recover the data on my damaged hard drive and where can I buy a new hard drive from???
Cheers
Evan

Yes, it means your hard drive is faulty - you will need a replacement.
To attempt recovery, remove the drive, mount it in a 2.5" SATA notebook drive case (about $10-15; newegg has many) and attach it to a working system running either Vista or 7. See what you can still read - if you can get your data this way you're all set; if not, and the data is worth the cost, data recovery may be an option, albeit an expensive (think a couple of thousand dollars) one.

This just happened to me, and while looking for a solution I ran across this post. Be sure to try to boot it in SafeMode before assuming your drive is fried. Restart while holding F8. If you can get there, at least you can back up your files before you go any further.
