Error Code 2000-0142,Msg: Unit 1: Driver Self Test failed. Status byte =79.
I ran the Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment Build 4104 :
I held the F(sub n) key and pressing the power button allowed the Pre-Boot System Assessment Build 4101 test to run. Error codes are as follows:
1.0 Error Code 0142, Msg: Error Code 2000-0142, Msg: Unit 1: Driver Self Test failed. Status byte =79.
2.0 Ran Extented Test: Error Code 3600.01.23, Battery test failed – reporting attached charger.
Also, I was able to boot into safe mode okay, however, System Restore would not proceed. The error message: The disk OS (C:) has errors, check the disk for errors. I checked both boxes, clicked start and kept getting “Schedule disk check next time you start the computer. I never was able to run the disk check.
Please help,
Thank you,

I got this error code today after running the dell diagnostics function: error code 0142. msg. error code 2000-0142
I felt pretty certain the unit wasn't going to reboot after reading this thread and much to my surprise after having attempted it no less than 8 times before doing the assessment, it booted! I decided it may be the users last chance to save any documents on the hard drive before it dies, but wanted to add one thing to this thread. I asked the user if any other symptoms had presented itself prior to the blue screen and the one thing that has been happening is losing Internet connection. She has to enable/disable network adaptor about three times a day. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this could be a connected event?

Given how much writing Windows does to the hard drive in the background, it could well be related to the failing drive, absolutely.
