Error Code 2000-0146! Help!
Hey guys I was wondering if you could give me a hand.
In the last couple of days, for no apparent reason, my Inspiron 1545 has basically not been booting up. When I turn it on it'll do one of two things:
1 - take me to my desktop then go completely silent. I can move my mouse about but can't click on anything.
2 - take me to my desktop but as soon as I click on anything the screen goes a translucent grey as if to tell me that a programme has stopped working (the taskbar doesn't function when this happens).
So I did some testing and came up with Error Code 2000-0146. After a bit of research apparently this means that my hard drive is screwed.
BUT I'm still able to boot up in all types of safe mode and the computer works fine, super fast etc. (is that significant?)
As I said this really happened for now reason and my computer hasn't received any serious shocks. I've run virus scans and there's nothing Avast! or SuperAntiSpyware have picked up.
So help me guys, what do I do (apart from backing everything up pronto).?
Cheers
Tom

Tom,
Your hard drive is failing. Backup all files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.
If your computer is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support.
If your computer is not under warranty, you'll need to replace the hard drive in the near future.

What dyou mean failing? As in I've got only a limited time before it completely packs it in? You got any idea how much time I've got left and how much a replacement would cost?

TomJou,
Could quit tommorrow, next week, it's unknown.
Is your system under warranty? If yes, call Dell tech Support.
There is a member that knows what hard drives are in each system and that could give you an approximate cost.

Hard Drive
Remove and reinstall the Hard Drive for the error codes:
Please see the Service manual for instructions on how to remove and replace the Hard Drive. Be sure to remove and reinstall the cables for the hard drive if you are on a Desktop Computer.
After reinstalling the hard drive re-run the diagnostics if you receive the same error code Contact Us.
Run the Drive Self Test (DST) from the Utility Partition also known as the 32 bit diagnostics to determine if the previous error has been corrected. If the DST from the Utility Partition does not indicate a failure of the drive, we consider the error to have been corrected and the drive does not need to be replaced.
