Usually, 2000-0123 error code indicates memory (RAM) failure and error code 2000-0142 indicates hard drive failure. Please share the system model and the issue that you are facing. I will be glad to assist you further.
i am having the same issue...I have an Inspiron laptop that has just turned 6 years old this month. Is it worth replacing the hard drive? It has already been thru so much. When i first bought it, it crashed and i had to reformat it. Later on it had a problem with overheating and i got that fixed and loaded new windows 7. I have recently loaded windows 8 and i guess it couldnt handle that tho i tested it and it said it was compatible...should i just dump it?
I am not sure where it says model number on the bottom it says all kinds of stuff in what looks like some asian language and then it says PP20L...is there somewhere else I should be looking for a model # there are so so many product keys etc...on the bottom of the laptop
It's an Inspiron 6000. If it just needs a hard drive and RAM, it may be worth those -- if the problem with the memory is the system board, it's not worth that repair.
I didnt think I would replace the hard drive but if I wanted to a) do you think its worth it on this old laptop and b) what hard drive would I be looking for that would be compatible? thanks
T=Just a quick note these hard drives are probably no longer made or if they are they are being made few and far between hence many being sold may be 2nd hand which probably means they are likely to fail soon also.
Western Digital is the sole manufacturer still making EIDE drives. That said, be sure if you install a drive over 120G, that you partition it such that Windows resides BELOW the 120G barrier -- if it crosses that, you will one day turn the system on to a disc read error and lose the contents of the drive.
thanks guys for the very detailed info!!. I think i am going to buy a new laptop but i want to buy it in the US when i am there in a few months. I really just need something to hold me over and even $100 is cheaper than buying a laptop or desktop where i live

This system is too slow to run windows 8.

Any ide/pata 2.5" hard drive, 120 GB or 160 GB preferably. The maximum this unit can read is 137 GB:

If you can get the drive for relatively cheap then its probably worth fixing, I would not spend a fortune on a hard drive for such an old system:
