Error loading operating system

Question

:smileysad:While using MSN Messenger yesterday, I received the error 'Beginning dump of physical memory', and my laptop, an Inspiron 2600, 3 years old, shut down.  Now it won't let me reboot..I keep getting the 'error loading operating system' and then a black screen.  I am desperate.  I brought it to my campus technicians.  Their reply was that since I hadn't purchased it through the college's Dell laptop program, there was nothing they could (WOULD) do for it!  Help me! Please.

Boot to the Windows cd and choose to do a 'Repair'.
