Error Message: Driver_ Power_State_Failure
Hello,
I have a XPS 17 ( L702x) system which is about 1.5 years old. I am getting an error message which states; Driver_Power_State_Failure The monitor/screen is also flicking from time to time.
Also, I have recently upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8; could this have contributed to the problem? It was working perfectly until this up-grade.
Please help!
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the Community,
After upgrading to Windows 8 try updating the Chipset and Video drivers from the links below :
Chipset:
Dell JMicron JMB389 Card Reader driver : www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x
Dell Intel Huron River (HM67) driver : www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x
Dell Intel Management Engine Interface : www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x
Video(install the applicable driver):
Dell Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver : www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x
Dell nVidia Stereoscopic 3D driver : www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x
After installing the above drivers check and confirm if you continue to get the error message.
Thank You

Hey Roshan,
Thanks again for the fixes.. I installed all of them and haven't seen the error message since. However, I do still get the occasional screen flicker. Any ideas? It's not all of the time; for example, right now everything is fine, but during other times there is a very slight flicker.
Thanks again,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Does it flicker when you move the system?Try moving the screen and see if it flickers.
It could be due to loose LCD cable.

Hello,
Bad news... the message is back; Driver_State_Power_Failure, is the blue screen message. The flicker is also still there even though the laptop is being used is a desktop; i.e. not transported or moved.
Any other ideas?

Hi Chris,
Did you update the BIOS before upgrading to Windows 8?
If you haven't try updating BIOS using this link: www.dell.com/.../xps-l702x

Hi Roshan,
The Bios have been updated. I used your Link to do it again just to be sure, and then reloaded Win 8 to see if it would help. I haven't gotten the blue screen Driver_Power_State_Failure, error message in awhile, but I still have slight flicker on the screen.

Hi Chris,
Check in BIOS screen and also in Safe mode if the screen flickers. If it does not flicker in BIOS screen and in safe mode then it may be due to graphics card driver.Reinstalling the graphics card driver may help.

Hello!
I was looking for some errors for this Driver_Power_State_Failure and I ran into your answer here. I was wandering if you could help me as well.
I have a Dell Xps 12 that I bought open-box (if this info is of any use). Ever since the beginning I had trouble with the fact that after getting it out of Sleep Mode, the touchscreen and the trackpad wouldn't work anymore and I had to restart (after a restart it always worked perfectly so I'm sure it's not the hardware). Hoping to get rid of this, I updated to Windows 8.1 but the problem persisted and, moreover, I had this new issue: after getting it out of sleep mode, the laptop will just stop working, throwing me the blue screen and the Power_State_Failure notice. Even when I just want to restart it to get the touscreen/pad working, it throws me this error. At this point I realized that maybe my touchscreen/pad problem is connected to one of the drivers involved in powering up the laptop.
Although I am not a specialist, I have tried my best to fix it: looked for driver updates on the Dell support page (and it seems to be none), update the BIOS (hoping it will help but it didn't), change the Touchpad driver... I still can't get rid of this Driver_Power_State_Failure problem. I even thought of reinstalling the Windows, but I'm not sure how to do that either. Seeing that you helped Chris here, I thought that maybe you could help me as well. Any suggestions, please?
Thank you,
Madalina.
