Error Message

I've just formated my computer and so far have only installed Dell Drivers...

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

STOP: 0X000000ED (0X81EF3900, 0XC0000015, 0X00000000 0X00000000)

Can anyone help what with what this mean and how I can slove it.

Thanks,

First, run a diagnostic on the hard drive.

I think I found the problem.. I reformated my HD and so far the error has not come up... It is softwear realated. One of the Application Utilities: Either Dell Help and Support Customizations or Dell Solution Center. I will play it by ear now and If it comes up I will run the Diagnostics

UBV or Unmountable Boot Volume is what happens when Windows can't recall wheere it needs to start and views the drive as an attempt to boot as mounted volume.  The easiest way to solve this issue is to use the Recovery Console and use the command CHKDSK /R.  This will force the system and hardware to recall a start point again and not chase shadows.  It's also a non-destructive way to resolve the issue.  Look at is as a system aneurysm of sorts.  It is also a sign of impending HDD failure, so though you may not be seeing the error again you will see eventual failures that may not be correctable.  Make it a point to do regular backups for when the HDD really gives up for good.

Mind you, the non-destructive way to resolve this is moot as you nuked the HDD  lol.  Food for thought for next time perhaps? ;)
