The most common cause of this error is a failing or failed hard drive. To confirm the failure, power on, press F12, load the Dell diagnostics and run the extended - NOT just the quick - hard drive test.
If the drive fails, you can use any 2.5" 9.5 mm EIDE (NOT SATA) notebook drive, 120G or smaller to replace the faulty drive.
If you do not have a copy of Windows, you will need one to do the reload after you replace the hard drive:
