eSATA not recognised

I have a Studio Laptop 1555 running WinDoze 7 and it has a combined eSATA/USB outlet. The problem is that it does not recognise eSATA drives when they are plugged in.

The BIOS shows eSATA but when it is selected, there are no options to choose.

Can someone please tell me how to configure it so that the eSATA is recognised?

This might be a stupid question, but does your drive have external power? I think eSATA still needs an external power to run it

If this is not the problem, does it work with another pc? might try testing this if you have another computer with eSATA

Hi...

I have same problem (Rec.: my HD has external power). I have bought a Dell Studio 1555 running since 3/4 year with Vista Home Edition (upgraded to SP2), network enabled with an external RAS (2x TB on an ix2-200 at a local trader) via Router/Firewall and DSL connection.

As I thought, that I have an eSata port (as listed in Bios, see bottom) I just bought an external HD of 2 TB size (Western Digital Caviar Green), which only runs as SATA connection (not possible with USB). So here I am. Smile

I wanted to plug in the Fantec MR-35US2 which has SATA + USB. I have installed the 2TB inside there and hoped to start working quickly, but the HD is not recognized. Not at all. It only makes a very short 1 time "blue blink" on the LSD of the HD Box when I plug in the SATA cable, but nothing more... (same I rebooted the whole system with connecting the 2TB HD but same: nothing). I dont think, that the new HD has a damage.

Definitely what I cannot do is to install the OS new... too many programmes, too many specific configuations... huge lack of time and I need the Lappy for my job, too.

Hope for your support... thank's for giving attention already now.

In my case, it turned out not to be the computer that was the problem. For some strange reason, the Astone enclosure, although it would work on my desktop, would not work on the Dell Laptop. I got a newer model enclosure from Astone, and with the same drive and it worked fine.

I also bought one of these and it also works well. It look like the sort of thing you need. (They ship world wide) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-SATA-HDD-Docking-Station-Card-Reader-Write-USB-Hub_W0QQitemZ360247590925QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Laptop_Accessories?hash=item53e06e000d
