F8 will not start Safe Mode
Can someone help me get to Safe Mode? F8 only beeps when you hold it on start up (as long as you hold the button)using my Inspirom laptop with Vista. Nothing more. F2 and F12 don't get me to the startup option screen either.
I am having trouble getting to threads for this post. I want to update this and still get an answer if it is out there.
I have tried (as suggested by one responder. Thanks.) to push the F8 button multiple times. This does not work either. It continues to load Vista in a normal fashion only each time that I try that. This was the recomended way by the Dell owners manual. I have not found a way to get to Safe Mode yet. My laptop works fine, after scanning with my anti-virus software I found I have a virus that could not be removed or deleted. The next step with these things is to run the anti-virus program in Safe Mode and therein lies the problem for me. This is not the first time this method was how I got rid of a bug. You would think that this is not a viral problem because we are talking about the very beginning of startup prior to loading the operating system, but who knows? Any solutions out there?

markrm9,
Tapping F8 constantly should bring up the safe mode.

PudgyOne - I too am having problems getting to Safe Mode start-up and tapping F8 doesn't get me there no matter when or how long I tap the danged thing! History - went to Google to get info on all programs on my laptop (Inspiron 1525) I don't use or don't need then started deleting items one by one, laptop then started getting 'hung up' but shutting it down and restarting didn't help or fix problem, couldn't get Start menu to come up, laptop finally gave me blue-black screen with just little flashing line up in top left corner. Got F12 to come up, tried starting from Internal HDD, that didn't work, got it to come up again and ran extended diagnostic where everything but hard drive passed tests, got "Message Error Code 2000-0145 Hard Drive 1 Self Test did not complete". I did get F8 to come up and restarted in Safe Mode but only got a few icons to come up on screen before everything quit again. On advise from the IT son, I shut it down again, waited several hours, then inserted Operating System disc and tried restarting that way but still got the blue-black screen. Haven't been able to get F8 to come up again, sooo .... what in the world did I do?? Any how do I fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to replace the hard drive before reinstalling the operating system - the one you have is faulty.
You'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm or slimmer SATA notebook hard drive. If you don't have a copy of Windows, you will need that as well and can order on here:
