Fatal Execution Engine Error 0x7927f276

I have a 1520 Inspirion

Windows XP

and have been unable to install many of the Windows Updates.  They will download, but when attempting to install, they "FAIL."

Now, when I turn on my laptop, I'm getting a fatal execution error 0x7927f276 and then an error that application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Does anyone have advice on fixing this?   I've restored back a week, to a date before the error popped up but apparently, the updates haven't been installing

for quite a while.
