Fatal System Error - computer continuously restarts

Please help!

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1150) gets to the windows xp loading screen with the scrolling bar.  After 15 seconds or so, it flashes a blue screen and restarts.  I had to record the screen with my camera and play it back to see what it said.  I believe it says something like:

Stop:
c000021a  {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system
process terminated unexpectedly with a status
f  0xc0000005
(0x00000000  0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
Thank you to anyone that help me with this.

I don't know anything about this, but a Google search provided many hits. You might check there for ideas.

Try reinstalling W-XP and see what happens. I suspect that the harddrive may be failing or developing bad sectors in the boot file area.

You may be able to connect it with a USB drive case and Cable to another machine and read the files that way since it will no longer be a boot drive. You can also buy a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE Adapter and connect it to a PC's secondary IDE cable as master. Those 2 ways are the cheapest and both are available on Ebay.

Mount your drive in one of these. Hook it up to a PC, open the drive and then use drag and drop to pull the files off and drop them on  a new folder on the Desktop.

Thanks for the help.

I bought one of the hard drive cases and when I plugged it in, the hard drive never showed up under "My computer".  I tried running the software, but nothing worked.  does taht mean the hard drive is done?

Since you are using W-XP, the drive should be picked up by USB. Since it is not, I am afraid it is Toast.
