Floating Cursor! Help!

Hi all,
My cursor keeps mysteriously floating to the right, and then becomes spastic and impossible to control. Sometimes, like now, it's just fine, but inevitably it starts again. I tried using a different mouse and the touchpad, but the same. Could it be my USB port? It's driving me #$%^in' crazy!!! Please help me! :robotmad:

Hi,

Your decription is not quite PC, and you dont mention the model. I would suspect a C600 or C610. If so the problem is going to be the pointer stick in the keyboard. You may be able to control it with the stick to confirm the fault. Also, when it is bad a tap on the stick may help. If this is the case you can replace the keyboard, or disconnect the stick. If you do a search you will find many " fixes ".

If this is a C600 or C610 with the problem then you can usually stop the cursor from moving in you push on the palm rest next to the touchpad mouse.  This problem should go away if the keyboard and palm rest are replaced.  This is a known problem with the C600 and C610 laptops.

Blueidmary,

It is most likely your keyboard also. Your computer is a C610 with a Celeron Cpu. If you want to try, you can take out the keyboard and use an external one. If all is fine, it confirms a keyboard fault. You then can replace it, or disconnect the pointer stick. There are many posts about this.

Thanks for your responses.  I fix my problem with the curser by taking off the little blue pad

on the stick in the keyboard.  Now its working just fine.  So try that before you go replace your keyboard.

Also I have a laptop  510  not a desktop

In this series, the crazy cursor is most commonly caused by a fault with the kb. Replacing the kb should rectify the problem. If you don't use the touchstick, you could remove the kb and cut the thinner of the two cables attached to the kb, which connect to the mb. This is the touchstick cable, and removing the connection effectively stops the problem. Remember to insulate the ends of the severed cable though, to prevent shorts.
