graphical slow motion

Has anyone else every experienced this?  Inspiron 8500 w/ GF4 4200

In some games, the graphics will appear to be in slow motion (particularly the models) - but it's not a drop in framerate!  and in some spots it will go back to normal like speed.  is this the speed step setting my CPU lower?

Sounds like the GPU is throttling down because of overheating.  What are your temps?  On what games does this happen?  Have you checked for spyware?  Is AV running in background?

I haven't checked the temps but i do have AV software running.  I'll try disabling it before starting a game.

Maybe you have this utility, but if you don't DL it here and run it to check your temps.  This program is used by many Inspiron owners and works great.  If Norton/McAfee AV is running, turn it off.  You can also look at your running processes using the task manager.  Go here to get details of each running process and shut down the ones that may be slowing things down.  Some might be viruses, etc.

Hope this helps

I have had the same problems with splinter cell pandoras tommarow, and it is caused by the lack of pixel shading support in the Geforce 4200 go. You can go to this forum link to download an emulator which actually emulates pixel shading and lets you play games that require this feature.
