hardware configuration options
Hello,
wow, i never imagined that buying from dell could be so complicated. I was trying to buy a E6400 but I could not find out what all those hardware options really do mean. So I called dell but the sales person on the phone did not know what the options are either.
Probably, I have more luck here if you are able to help me making my decision.
1. Is it easy to replace both memory slots if more RAM is needed later?
2. There are two battery options - 6 cell vs. 9 cell. Except for the weight, is the size of the akku packs the same or do I have parts sticking out of the case as with Lenovo?
3. Graphics selection. There is a selection of Nvidia cards called either "with PC card" or "with express card". But what is the difference? do they take an expansion slot i can't use for other things like a gps module? Do i have to care about the "with xyz" at all? What does RED or BLUE mean?
I did not find any information about the power supply module at all. How big and how heavy is it? Does it come with adapters for all countries?
Thnks in advance for your help!

The PC card and Express Card are not used for graphics. Because the mainboards are different, it's one or the other, but not both for expansion cards. The choice of expansion card type has nothing to do with the video, which is a separate chip integrated onto the mainboard.

Oh well - I see, so why do I have to select this option with the graphics card? Its a strange world...

1. Yes.
2. THe larger capacity batteries protrude from the case.
3. PC Card = PCMCIA; Express Card = Express Card. These are two different standards for add-on cards; the latter is newer, while the former is much more widely used - if you have an older PCMCIA card you can't give up, buy that. IF you don't, get the Express Card version.
4. The power supply is a standard one of about average weight. The Dell units are larger than the ones that Lenovo ships. They work worldwide, though you would need a plug adapter.

Thanks a lot, I am still not sure about the graphics adapter: Does that mean if I choose PC-Card graphics I cannot add another PC-Card and if chosseI Express-Card graphics I cannot add another Express-Card? So it would probably be wise to use PC-Card graphics to be able to add another Express-Card later? Or is my understanding totally wrong and the gaphics adapter does not take the external card slot and i do not have to think about it anyway?

Probably because the mainboard and expansion card type are tied together, and since the video chip is part of the mainboard.
