I've got an Inspiron 1525 and was wondering what the little pop out slot marked NY742 is mainly used for so please any and all info is appreciated!!!

Welcome to the Dell community.
The part# NY742 that you have mentioned in your query is a Dummy Plastic blank. It is only a dummy insert and is only used to fill the blank space. This blank space hold one express card (if ordered). Else the system is shipped out with a dummy blank
