Hardware virtualization support
Hello all,
I'm looking into buying a new Dell laptop, but I need to be sure it supports hardware virtualization.
I need to be able to run 64bit virtual machines.
Does the Dell Studio 17, XPS 16-laptop support this?
Which Dell laptops support it?
Thanks for the info!
Peter

The system will support hardware virtualization, AS LONG AS you choose a CPU that has VT support - not all Intel CPUs do. Be sure you check the VT support for the CPU you intend to purchase.
You can look up the specific CPU here:

His information is suspect. There are plenty of Studios, XPS, Vostros - even bottom-feeder Inspirons -- with VT support.
Since Best Buy sells this system, if you have one nearby, go take a look - they should be willing to let you reboot one and go into the BIOS setup to confirm the setting is there.

Owner of the system reports that it does support virtualization:

Thanks for the info. But this is where it starts to be confusing :)
I was looking at the Dell Studio XPS 16, processor Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 520M (2,40 GHz, 3 MB cache). When I look on the Intel site you've provided, it states that VT is supported. But earlier I've chatted with the Dell helpdesk and they said that the XPS 16 does not support it and it cannot be enabled in the bios.

Thanks.
fyi: just chatted with second helpagent:
peter: Hello, I have a question about the studio xps 16 laptop. Does it support hardware virtualization?
agent: It does not Peter - it is disabled in BIOS
peter: without possibility to enable it?
agent: That is right! You will have to look at the Precision series or the Latitudes.
I'm not willing to take the risk.
