Help with the DELL D430

Hi All,

Can someone let me know about the following for the DELL D430:

1) Can we put more then 2GB of RAM inside. i.e. use the 1GB Integrated RAM but add a 2GB module in to get 3GB

2) Will the D430 be faster then my X-Thinkpad which has P4-M 1.6Ghz Processor, 2GB of RAM and 5400RPM hdd. I will be using it to do some development and also from time to time, to run a Virtual Machine which would require 1GB of RAM to run itself. Will it run sufficiently fast enough to use the VM to do demos of Software applications. Can't buy a machine and have it run slower then the current old machine.

I understand that the HDD is the slower 4200RPM drives and because i've never tried these before, i hve no idea how slow they are...compared to say 5400 drives.

Thanks all !
Jazzy

you won't be able to add more RAM than what the system says it can support.

performance between 4200 and 5400 RPM drives can vary greatly by make/model but generally speaking you should see a notable difference with 5400 RPM drives.

that system uses ULV (ultra low voltage) processors. It's geared more towards portability and battery life. It doesn't sound like that's the system for you.

Thanks Meryl.

Reason I ask is because on the D420, our users have been putting 2GB chips in it so that total memory is 2.5GB (even though officially supported memory is only 1.5GB).

Would this notebook be noticably faster then a Pentium 4-M 1.6Ghz machine overall (taking into consideration of the HDD speed and Processor).

I just wished Dell had Lattitude notebooks with the Core 2 Duo in a 12.1" configuration. Everyone else seems to have it, and i dont know why Dell doesnt.
