HOme networking

I have two Dell mobile PC's Inspiron 8500 and a newer Inspiron 600M. I cannot share files via home networking with either of these PC's. I have set up the MSHOME network in all (6 in total) my PC's at home.  All 4 non-Dell PC's have no issues.  But Dell PC's give me the message "cannot access Mshome. Contact system administrator for privilege" - but I am the administrator.  From other PC's I can see the Dell PC's but cannot access any file --- the follow error message is generated: "\\ is not accessible.  You might not have permission to access the network resource. Contact your administrator ---"

How do I resolve the issue?  It is only with Dell computers.  Dell will NOT provide this support thru customer service -it is still under warranty.  They want me to pay clsoe to $100 to try to help me over the phone.  Nowhere can I find how to resolve this issue.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks

well a simple question first do u have file sharing turned on? and if u do u should try running the network wizard again on a couple systems and see what happens some times they glitch for no reason.

Dell shouldn't have to help you with network problems as this has nothing to do with the equipment, if you can access the internet via your Dell's it means there's no hardware issue.

You have some kind of setting that needs to be tweaked and that's nothing they need to cover.

If the ethernet adapters for your laptops are working ( meaning you can reach the internet through them ) it's not a hardware issue but a user oversight on how the network is setup.

hi, do you have firewalls on the pcs that don't connect, if so is there any setting regarding sharing files on a network?

Thanks very much to those who replied to the message.

Yes, i do have file sharing turned on.  Unfortunately I do disagree with one reply since Dell did the PC set up and thay owe me a documentation for the set up.  I do not know if Dell ahs installed an special firewall.  If 4 other PC's in the house works fine then the issue is with Dell and not myself.

Couple more questions - are all six machines running the same OS - are some pro and some home? (or even different OS altogether?)
Also, is your network wired or wireless? It shouldn't matter since the Dells are visible on the network but I'm trying to get a clear mental picture.

Thanks very much for the replies.  I have one machine that runs on Win98 (hardly used these days), one running Win2000 and the rest WIn XP.  THe two Dell's run Win XP.

I spent over two hours with Dell recently -- and only on one occasion I could see the other computers from one Dell -- never to be repeated - with the Dell technician on line. But the other computers could not access the Dell.
