How Do I Enable My Touchpad While Typing?

I recently got a new Dell Inspiron 15, running Windows 7 Home Premium. Overall, I'm very, very pleased with this computer, but there is one issue I'm having with it that is rather annoying.

I use my PC to play some games,  but I'm not in a position where I can buy a mouse right now, so I have to rely on my touchpad.

However, my touch pad locks whenever I press any keys on my keyboard. I realize this feature is intentional, and is put into place to keep the touchpad from interfering while the user is typing, however, it is very annoying when trying to play games that require use of both the keyboard and touchpad at the same time.

Normally I would know how to fix this, but because Dell has a different program for touch pad settings that is located outside of the control panel (where I am used to editing this on new computers), and because this is the first Dell I've had in years, I have no idea how to disable this feature.

If there's anyone out there who knows how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi linoita,

Please provide the exact model number. Example: Inspiron 5010, 5110, 5520 etc.

Hi Linoita,

Touch pad getting disabled while typing is as per design. Please check if this link helps.

Unfortunately, that will not work on my Inspiron, because the "Touchpad Settings" tab is non existent in that area of the control panel.

There is a tab labeled "Dell Touchpad". When I click on the tab, there is a picture of the touchpad, and below it is some text that says "Click to change Dell Touchpad settings". When the text is clicked on, it opens a program called "Pointing Devices", that seems to be separate from the control panel.

I have tried searching through this program to find the option to enable the touchpad while typing, but have had no luck.

Hi Linoita,

Unfortunately there is no other workaround that I could provide. Try the older versions of touchpad driver and check if it helps.
