How do I find out what BIOS version I have

I'm running XP on an Inspiron 8100.  The "splash" screen that usually shows the BIOS version doesn't come up.  I recently did a clean install of XP to upgrade from ME.
How can I find out what version of BIOS I have?

Also, I had a program that I downloaded from some other web site that would analyze my computer and tell me exactly what programs and what configurations were on my machine.  I think the program started with a "B".  Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks.

If you still need help or have a different issue, please don't hesitate to contact our support team. You can use the Get Help Now chat at any time.

  1. Press the Windows + R key on the keyboard.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type msinfo32 and press the Enter key.
  3. In the System Information window, look for BIOS Version/Date (Figure 1).

Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information
System Summary screen will come up, look at BIOS Version/Date
also
Start->Help and Support->Computer Information->Detailed Computer Information

Can't help with the other question.

If you hit F2 while the splash screen shows the version is listed on the first BIOS page.  Belarc is the program you are thinking of, but the Windows way tells you what you have and what Windows thinks it is.  If you upgrade the BIOS only use floppy version, and also consider using i8kfangui to control the fans ans temps - linked below in my sig.

There is no bypass - you'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership.  Pending that you'll be issued an unlock code for the BIOS.

If the system is out of warranty, a standard call charge of $60 US applies.
