HUB - some do; some don't

I am running a number of devices directly off a powered HUB on my Inspiron 8600 laptop.
I reinstalled my digital camera software and plugged into the HUB with no results; when I plugged into the back of the Inspiron, no problem. What tipped me off was a statement in the camera manual that says the camera may not work via a HUB connection - but will if connected into the USB on the computer itself.

I suspect that is why my scanner wasn't showing up after reinstalling software earlier. I uninstalled the scanner software and have yet to reinstall it to see if connecting directly to the laptop will work.

My question, then, is why do some USB peripherals work off the HUB but not others except when directly connected to the laptop USB port?

Is there a fix to enable me to run any USB peripheral off the HUB?

I have a HP printer, A Dell Axim pocket pc cradle, and a Toshiba pocket pc cradle running thru a hub with no problems. If you havnt tried you might try uninstalling your hardware then replugging them in one at a time thru the hub to see if Windows recognizes them. Just a thought.
