Hi,

It could be a bad CPU, memory or even a faulty replacement with a similar fault. Not likely but it can happen. Have you tried with an external screen ?

Thanks Chris, I've taken everything off both boards, switched memory etc, and tried with external monitor and keyboard. No joy, still LED's and out!
The only thing I havn't replaced is the CPU. Can a CPU going down do this?
I think my next move had better be to find a replacement processor and give it a go.
Regards  Roger.

Hi,

There are 3 symptoms of a bad CPU, you dont always get them all.

1 Freezing

2 Overheating

3 No post, the screen wont light up, and it wont turn off.

They can do the opposite of what you expect, but the feezing stands out. If the CPU was working, you would get a blue screen.

OK, I'm out of other options so looks like a hunt for a replacement CPU!

Hi, I have the exact same problem. Lights come on for a few seconds but then nothing happens. Same result regardless of situation.

How much was the processor? Where did you get it?

ebay is the best source I found. But you might have to wait for a compatible one to come up.

the Intel 'Processor Spec Finder' is a first call to ident your unit. http://processorfinder.intel.com/

Why not if you can find a good one. Good luck.

After thinking about it, I researched the two chips. Apparently the 1.13 GHZ uses a different voltage than the 1.0 GHZ. I don't want to mess with that. Then the consideration of whether or not hte stock 1.0 GHZ cooler will be adaquete made me just get the new replacement exactly the same.
