ide controller driver (cannot find)
I have a dell inspiron 6000
In device manger under 'SCSI / Raid controller' I see IDE controller. But I have lost the driver and the computer can't find a driver to roll back to (not sure what happened). I have spent days looking for a driver online to no avail. I haven't found anything not working as such, but every time I turn the computer on it 'finds new hardware' and wants to search for a driver. Its very annoying I don't know why a driver is so difficult to find... I'm not even entirely sure what it does.
Please help! My warranty has expired and I refuse to pay for support just because dell is incapable of publishing a decent list of drivers
Thanks

The IDE driver is built into Windows. You might try reloading the chipset driver, Dell notebook system software and then the latest service pack for whatever version of Windows you're running - that should take care of any software issues. If it doesn't fix the problem, then it's likely a hardware problem.
