incorrect function message when trying to burn to CD

Question

My wife is trying to burn spread sheets she created onto CD. She just purchased a Toshiba A75-S2292 Laptop with DVD SuperMulti drive That says it reads and records CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RAM. The discs she is trying to burn to are TDK PrintOn CD-R 700 MB for computer burning. With a disc in the drive, she makes it through all the steps to burn her info and when she clicks to record  to CD she gets a message saying 'incorrect function' and is stuck  not knowing what to do next. Is there a program in the computer she has to activate or is she trying to do something the computer is not capable of. One of the main reasons for buying this computer was to be able to burn data and she is at wits end trying to figure this out. We are not real computer literate so answers in fairly simple language would be greatly appreciated. i can help you  but first i need to know  what drive you put the  cd in?  and what is the  name  of  the   cd burning software you are useing on the  computer to copy the disk with?

The software we are using is Sonic RecordNow version 7 and the drive we use is D. Hope this helps and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I am able to help but you need tell me how much cd drives are on the computer? and are there words on the cd rom door? the cd rom door is the part that slides out and what the cd rom is inserted another name for it is the cd rom tray there shouild be a word on the plastic thing on the front of the cd rom drive a with a word recordable on there
