INSPIRION DISPLAY ISSUES

I have an Inspirion 8100 notebook and I am having a display issue.  I have a large frame around my desktop when I change my settings from1400x1050 to 1024x768.  Basically anything less than the largest setting gives me this frame.  I have updated my video card driver to no avail.  Suggestions?

ok what you have to do is look at the keyboard and find the Fn key and hit and hold that key then press F7.  That should do it.

On my Inspiron 5150 Nvidia GeForce 5200Go that's easy to fix:

  •  go into Display Properties
  • click the Settings tab
  • Click the Advanced box
  • click the Nvidia GeForce 5200 Go tab
  • a menu pops up on the left: click on Flat Panel Display (you may have to click the "+" signs to expand your tree before you see the Flat Panel Display entry)
  • Click "Use Display Adapter Scaling"

Dell's web site has the manual for your video card online, and it explains the different ways your card can show different resolutions when they have a different aspect ratio than your panel's native resolution. For instance, black out the sides is Centered Output. I don't remember what the other options do, but I on "Use Display Adapter Scaling" I have no black sides. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Just FYI: the "Use Dispay Adapter Scaling" is an nVIDIA only option I believe.
