Inspiron 1150 Pointer Problem

Question

Hello All, My mother-in-law just purchased a fully loaded 1150 and all works well except for this one problem. Sometimes on boot-up the mouse pointer goes weird at the black screen just before the desktop appears. Symptoms are that we are unable to move the pointer around the screen except for the far-left corners. Its as if the pointer cannot 'see' the rest of the screen. Should I renew the drivers? And if so, is it just a matter of deleting them and letting Win XP auto discover them again on boot? Thanks all.

Update: To be more specific it only happens when trying to resume from 'Stand By'. I can see my Login user button but can not get to it because the mouse will not move to that part of the screen. Any ideas? Thanks all.
