Inspiron 5423 does not power on; Embedded Controller Problem?
Hi,
My Dell Inspiron 5423 laptop does not power on normally; when I press the power button, nothing happens (no lights, no sound). As a result, I have to press the Embedded Controller reset button at the bottom of my laptop for the power button to work. How can I fix this problem as I don't want to have to undergo this procedure every time I turn on my laptop. Any constructive diagnosis would be greatly appreciated.
George

Hi George,
I would suggest you to flashing the BIOS on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the operating system, and then download the BIOS from the BIOS section onto the system and install it.

Also, I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Please let me know the findings.

Hi Ravi,
I tried flashing the BIOS but the program does not run because its the same version (latest version?)
I have also done the diagnostics and there was no problem.
Please advice on what the problem is.
Thank you,
George

Hi George,
I’d advise that you load defaults in the BIOS and check for issue resolution. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults.
1.Reboot the computer.
2.When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
3.On the System Setup screen, press the key.
4.Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.
