Inspiron 600m Hinge Problem (?)

Here is a picture of what is going on with my Inspiron 600m notebook:

Am I correct that this is a problem with the hinge, or is it something else? It hasn't come off yet, but today it started clicking and I noticed that the left side hinge was coming out. If it does come out, will my computer not work, or is that side not as vital?

What am I supposed to do? Should I purchase a spare part and get it replaced? How difficult is it to do yourself, and how much might it cost approx. to get someone to replace it for me (i.e. how long of a task is it?)

Or is it not a problem with a hinge but with something else? Please, if anyone can help me I would be so grateful. In the meanwhile, should I just not open and close my notebook as much?

Or is it a problem with the base latch? And if this is the case, does that make it easier or harder to fix? Or can I glue/shove it back in?

If you have a warranty for it send it in and let them handle it. The same thing happend with my laptop(600m) and i ignored it. Next thing i know the whole thing came off. Not sure whether or not its hinge or base hatch, but id let the dell geeks handle it.

I am having this problem during my travel to India and also stuck with Dell...Dell USA (the best service warranty in the world) can't help becuase I am in India and Dell India won't take any ownership (claiming that Inspiron is not covered in India).

Here is my advice for Dell to maintain the same service support when we all talk about Globalizaton:

1. For a trivial problem like this (may develop into a serious problem later), use existing service set up to at least study what's going on and assist customers.  This will make customers feel that they have brand that they can trust, wherever they are.

2. Appoint Dell service agents (Dell has only 2 Dell centers in India now), not owned by Dell, in different parts of India so that Dell user can get some support, instead of taking the Dell product to a roadside repair shops, who are just capble of repairing.

I had the same exact problem w/ my Dell inspiron 600 M the left side started clicking and the top was looser than it should have been.

I took off the plastic hinge cover to find that the metal hinge hidden under there had worn completely in half. they could not send me a new

hinge and had to come out (in home w/ complete care) and had to replace the entire LCD panel as the hinge is part of the top and cannot

be separated in an inhome situation (according to the tech).  Good luck.
