inspiron 700m USB DEVICE ISSUES

ok i reformatted my computer   and for some reason its not recognizing the usb devices, so i run the DELL SYSTEM SOFTWARE utility and it tells me   COMPUTER not COMPATIBLE with this operating system which is windows XP professional
 
 
i previously had XP HOME when i first bought the unit
 
 
 
is there anyway to install the drivers for the usb?  and why wont professional XP workl?

Do you have the chipset drivers loaded? Are you running SP1 or 2?

the system device drive loads  usb, and the pentium M processor  what else does it do?

I agree with you - It should work. But the Notebook system software is pretty picky, it seems. There have been reports on these forums of it refusing to install before, although I thought that was with versions of Windows that weren't supported for the Inspiron they had, which obviously isn't the case with you. I'd or email Dell and see what they have to say about it. I really think they need a way to "force" the install - if they come up with one for you, make sure to post it on the boards.

Install XP SP1 or SP2, scan for new hardware and it'll pick up an updated driver and work - or at least it did for me.
