You mean to tell me that your 15" WUXGA screen doesn't have the same problem? I would be very surprised... like I said, the problem appears to be related to the protective LCD lens, not the display itself. As such, I'd imagine your screen has the same issues.
im glad your happy with your 15.4" that i aslo have that but this tread doesnt concern you at all??? this is for us i9200 owners that are loosing our patients on what dell put out on there uxga lcds that is really not appealing to our eyes.
My I9200 with Wuxga screen is still sitting in the box, and i must say all of you have scared me to even open it! I will be very upset if it looks as bad as you all say
My 9200 just shipped this morning. I certainly hope that somebody from Dell can put an official word out on this matter before my 21 days is up. I understand that this is the launch of this laptop, but that is no excuse for putting out a screen that almost everybody finds SO unpalatable that they return them in droves. I really need a 17" WUXGA so there isn't many options besides refund that I can see if I join the crowd of people saying, "this is too bad to keep."
Also, if Inspiron9200 joins this thread, please ignore his statements. He is young and excitable, but there are also intelligent people who are being affected by this LCD issue.
After last night's disappointment with my 9200, I decided to stop by CompUSA for a quick comparison. If you're like me and are interested in a quality screen above all, then Qosmio appears to be by far the best option. They are considerably heavier and seem geared primarily towards multimedia (Windows Media Edition, TV tuner, etc). But, after comparing Qosmio's line of TruBrite displays, the 9200 doesn't even come close (even though the unit itself is lighter and looks "cooler" I think). The other disappointment with i9200 is screen angle viewing. If you're looking at it at an angle (either from the side or above), the screen gets very dark... extreme angles even invert the image so that the background appears black. The Qosmios are superbright at all angles.
As for me, I'll probably either go with Qosmio E-15 or possibly the IBM T42. Both are available in 15" (I decided I can live with a 15"). What I'm still not sure of is how the T42's FlexView display compares. I already have a T41 and am pretty happy with it, but I doubt the T42 is nearly as bright as the Qosmio.
Just to let you know, if you CAN READ??? look at the tittle and look what it says. if you cant read that, it says, "Inspiron 9200 display" hmmmm... does the i9200 have a 15.4 screen??? i dont know but all it says in the dell website is that they only have 17" screen for i9200. obviously, your not too sad about that screen than the others. Maybe cause youre rich or something but i might be young but im not stupid. if you like the screen then yooo hooo for you but for us that accually paid a premium for this that expect more for the money, we are just looking for answers from dell techs cause sooner or later, theyll have to change it cause its really unclear. So i dnt know why youre saying
"Also, if Inspiron9200 joins this thread, please ignore his statements. He is young and excitable, but there are also intelligent people who are being affected by this LCD issue."
I do not want to be lumped into a group with you because you do not take the time to read posts, nor do you have the ability to write a sentence. You do not spell 15% of the words you use, nor do you use complete sentences. This may be fine for whatever other forums that you use, but I would like this thread to be taken seriously.
All of this is evidence in your statement, "obviously, your not too sad about that screen than the others." First the statement makes no grammatical sense and secondly I do not have my laptop yet, so I cannot be "too sad about that" quite yet. This could have been deducted from the first sentence of my post which reads, "My 9200 just shipped this morning." I know you have a hard time with this. But it's only six words. Notice the first word has a capital letter. It is a sentence. It has a subject, my 9200, and a verb, shipped. It gives direct information with out any, "omg ??? my is or better, im young".
I do not think that your use of language is the best way to achieve actual results from Dell or when dealing with any company. I do not want to stop you from spamming the forum, but if you could, can you please just stay off this one thread.
why do you care so much about the grammatical errors and spelling errors that i have??? ummm.... ive only been in the uniited states for almost a year and you expect me to write in english perfectly. this forum is not even about english. this is for computers. all im interested in writing in this forums are things that matters not like you spamming us. maybe you are an english, grammar, spelling, freak but i have very little experience in writing in english and i ask questions and expects to be answered??? if you think its dumb to ask questions then dont but for me, ive work really hard for the money while still in school and expect to get what i paid for.
But good luck for you though. it seems that you like to correct and look down on us young kids that dont know how to write perfect grammar but i hope your happy LargePete and this maybe a spam and im sorry to post this here but i just have to tell my side cause its not nice to put people down you know!
I only wished that Dell would fix this problem or at least offer another wuxga screen that does not have the super great technology that they have now. It's great that Dell uses the best of the best technology for their computers but there's also a limit.
For now, I have returned my Inspiron 9200. The whole package was great except for the screen. I know Dell will do something about it, just not now. I'll be waiting for Dell to fix this problem or have a new manufacturer of LCD screens that does not have the super great technology, but just the one that many are already used to.
For me, Dell has great computers. I have an Inspiron 8500 that has been flooded with water and till now, it's still working fine. I bought it the same time I arrived in the United States and it has been through a lot: drops, hits, water but it's still working fine.
So for now all I can do is wait for another LCDS screens that does not have the super great technology for the Inspiron 9200 and wait for another 25% off:(

My 9200 arived yesterday and I am very much disappoited with the display as well.
I had a Dell UXGA 15 inch (1600 x 1200) that I bought almost 4 years ago and I think that has a much better looking display.
I wish someone would make a laptop as nice as Apple's with a slightly higher resolution and be windows compatible. It's sad that most of us are willing to pay upwards of $3000 or more and still not get a laptop that we're not completely happy with.
As it is, I'm going to see if the screen continues to bother me and if so, I'm returning it. The sad fact is that there isn't many alternatives to Dell. Sony is expensive, IBM likes slow, intergrated video chips, Apple is Apple, and Acer skims on the high rez screen.
Here's to waiting...

My 9200 with WUXGA screen is in production right now estimated to ship on Dec 7. I have been reading here in this forum and also in the notebookforums.com how many have been complaining about the bad quality picture of this screen (a kind of haziness caused by the screen coating).
I have to admit I am really upset now, after paying a ton of money for this computer, and wondering if I might get a machine with a terrible screen I would not like. When you work digital media, like I do, the picture quality is very important.
Do you think I should cancel my order before it ships out? Or, if I opt to receive the computer and do not like it can I get a full refund for returning it right away? Help!
I'm still debating on whether or not I will keep mine. I've been needing a laptop for a while and I was very excited about the 9200 when it was announced months ago. In fact, I suggested to my older brother to buy it as well. Now that I have it, I am a disappointed but just as when I ordered it, there are not that many alternatives. So I'm going to see if I can tolerate the screen for a week or so.
As I already mentioned in my previous post, it is sad that there isn't a manufacturer that makes a laptop to my satisfaction. But I really need one now so I'm going to have to compromise. I work in graphics (3d animation) and so picture quality is important but more so resolution and pixel refresh rate. So the "graininess" is something that is not completely detrimental to my productivity.
The issue is real. My brother will be getting his tomorrow. If the problem is as bad as mine (which I anticipate it will be) then it's a wait and see for me. As for you, to each their own. I didn't anticipate returning my 9200 when I ordered it because I had faith in dell to pick the right parts and I've seen nice 17 inch lcd displays so I new "good" ones existed. Now I'm not really sure what the return policy even is. I will look into it if I decide to send it back in a week. If it's a 100% money back type deal, I suggest you keep your order active until you get yours and make a decision for yourself.
This is my exact thoughts. I love the 9200, there isn't much else to choose from, and I'm gonna give it a little time and see if the screen is just intolerable. I might call Dell and ask them when (I'm going to assume that so many returns will eventually make them get a different supplier of LCD's) they switch LCD's if I can send mine back and get the upgrade.
