Inspiron boot trouble

Inspiron 17, turn on the power button, it shows the inspiron logo with a progress bar. Then it goes to black screen with blinking cursor. Never any farther. Tried restore, says there are no restore points. Tried reloading windows 7, when it restarts, get the same screen. Any ideas??

This has happened to me several time, I have an msata cache so I don't know if this has anything to do with it.  I also noticed it happened when i was booting from Hibernation .  You just leave it for a while and it will boot. It could take a couple minutes.

I would like one of dell tech supports staff to shed some light on this issue though.

Hello Firespot,

I would suggest running a hardware diagnostics to isolate the issue. To Run the Hardware Diagnostics refer the following link:  http://dell.to/OUGnqT

Please try the steps and write back with results, would be glad to assist further.

Let it sit there forever...never did anything else. NAturally it is out of warranty.

Hi,

I really appreciate that you have ran the hardware diagnostics and provided the results which proves that the hardware components are fine. I would suggest few steps which might help in fixing the issue.

1. Check in Safe Mode.
-- Restart the computer.
-- Keep tapping F8 on the Dell Logo Screen.
-- Once the computer enters Advanced Boot Option, select Safe Mode.
-- Press Enter.
-- Check if the computer is booting into safe mode.
If the computer boots into safe mode, I would suggest doing a System Restore.
In case system restore doesn’t fix the issue follow step 2.

2. Run Start Up Repair.
In case Start Up Repair doesn’t fix the issue, we would have to do a PC Restore.

Please write back to us with results, I'd be glad to assist further.

Puter does nothing after the Dell screen. F2..goes to the hardware profile....F12 goes to the "boot from" screen....F8 does nothing...connot even do Ctrl-F11..

Tried the Windows reload disk...gave me the option of repairing..tried a restore.there were no restore points available..tried to reload windows....got to the first restart and got the same thing. After trying everything I knew...plus a few things I didn't know I took it to a shop. Told them what happened. Also told them about the FBI Pay Me Screen. Said I probably had a virus that  corrupted the hard drive. When I get it bak I will post it here.
