Inspiron E1505 Comments please!

Ok guys, I hope I can get some comments here from those of you that have this laptop and how you feel about it. A good friend of mine wants to buy the E1505 and we made a few changes at my suggestion like upgrading the CPU, getting the ATI 256mb Mobility card, going with XP-Pro and going to the Intel Pro wireless card. Did the wireless card as I am reading many post about problems getting the Dell card to connect to the internet. I have read many other post on this laptop that concerns me and my friend.

I welcome any and all comments from those that have the E1505 Inspiron. Would be appreciated.

Hey there,

I just got a Inspiron 1505 and I love it. The laptop is a little big but other than that it is a great machine. I would upgrade to the wireless from Intel. I use Intel wireless cards where I work and they have been very reliable.

I have the E1505...and LOVE IT! I have the Dell Draft N card and it is totally compatible with b/g routers. Backwards compatibility is not the issue...it is the Different technologies for Draft N. Right now...it looks as though "Intensi-Fi" from Broadcom is the leader in the "N" sweepstakes. The good news is that the Dell Draft N is broadcom. So is the Buffalo, Netgear and Linksys Draft N routers. The issue with the forementioned three is that you need the most updated firmwares for each of them for the Dell draft N to work well with them.

As far as the Intel Pro wireless...I would just make sure that the drivers are totally up to date...and your friend should be fine.

Smart move on the ATI x1400. It is not a total gamers card...but it does well with most new games on medium settings and older games (Half Life 2, Far Cry, etc..) at full settings. It is also the video card that will make the machine most compatible with Windows Vista "Aero" version. The sweet spot for processor is the 2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo...excellent power without breaking the bank.

Here are my specs

Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ
1 GB 533 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
120 GB 5400 rpm Hitachi HDD
ATI Radeon Mobility x1400
WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 LCD with Truelife
8X DVD Burner
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Dell Draft N Wireless card

I loaded the machine up with everything but Bluetooth (didn't need it).

Machine is solid...performance and build wise. I really enjoy working with it...all the time.

Very good information and I thank you for posting. I was told that the Media version of Windows was a step down from XP-Pro. I really like Pro and not a real gammer at all. Like ATI cards and have always used them. You have a nice setup.
Thanks,

Have a question. You said that you feel the laptop is a little big? I have the 15" display now and don't seem big to me. Could you sort of explain this? Is the laptop like heavy compared to say the E1405 or the 600M with the 14" displays?
Thanks

Anytime...

I just think that the E1505 has a longer future...not that the E1405 is a bad machine, or anything like that...but feature for feature and what you can put into a 1505...it beats the 1405 hands down

The E1505 is 14.1" wide and weighs roughly 7 lbs. The E1404 is about 13.2" wide and weights between 5-6 lbs. I can carry the E1505 around without effort...my old machine weighted around 12 lbs...so this is like carrying a feather! For the screen size, etc...the E1505 is a very attractive choice

Sounds great! The one she uses now is the 600M and it is really light and easy to travel with.

Thank you again!

Any questions?

Do you LOVE yours as much as I do mine? The only difference in our config is you have the Intel Pro Wireless and I have the Dell Draft N.

I also have the E1505 model.  It's really nice.  I've been using it for a week now.  So far I have no problem at all.  But there is one thing that I still can't figure out is the printer.  I have the HP Color Laserjet, and is connected via network. And it's installed on my desktop, but when i add a printer through network, it doesn't even detet my printer.  It seems like I'm in a different network then my desktop, both are set to MSHOME but still can't get the printer to show up.  Other than that it's fine.  I would recommend getting this system.  And get extra warranty on this system.  As for weight, i have no problems.  It doesn't seem heavy to me.  I personally love this E1505 system.
