Inspiron E1705 Screen Resolution Problem... Please help...

Hi there all,

 

I'm very new to this technical stuff but one of my relatives gave me his notebook and it has a 17" screen with Tru life option on it. (I do not know what that is). OK, the problem is the resolution. For some reason, I could not fix the resolution problems and so the icons on the desktop are very small but the fonts on the taskbar is very huge and the pictures on the internet are very blurry. What can I do about this and what are the optimal resolution settings? Dell customer care messed up everyhting and it is even worse now. Please help. Thank you...
