Inspiron E1705 Screen

Question

Hi,   Have said laptop for several years. Several months ago while leaving it went into hibernate. When I turned it back on, the sceen had black and grey vertical bars, the bottom of which were trying to change but getting nowhere. I shut off my laptop and rebooted, all is fine. This happened today. Weird that it last happened a few months ago. Is this a sign of something that needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance. Rich

Does the same fault show on an external monitor?  If it does, the video card is failing.  If it doesn't, the problem lies with the screen.
