Inspiron/Palm Bluetooth Hot Sync Problems

I have a Dell E1505 and a Palm T/X. I would like to hot sync them via Bluetooth. My Palm setup prompts me to create a “virtual serial port” on my PC, following the instructions that came with my PC's Bluetooth. Unfortunately, my PC's (Inspiron) Bluetooth didn't come with any such instructions. I have been working on this for a few days and am finally get the two to sync via Bluetooth, but only some of the time. Sometimes I can’t make a connection at all and at other times it will sync and transfer some files and not others. At other times the files that would previously not sync will sync without any problems.

Palm says it's a Dell problem and Del says it's a Palm problem, so I am unable to sync via Bluetooth on a consistent basis.

Palm told me that I had to set up a port with a com # for hot sync, this must be open or initialized for hot sync, it should be set up to open automatically and should be dedicated for the Bluetooth connection. But they say that it is up to Dell to assist me with the virtual serial port set up.

In my Bluetooth connection set up on the PC there is no prompt to set up the virtual serial port. Is this a software problem? Am I missing some type of driver?

My operating system is the XP Media Edition. After I ordered the computer and before it was in production I tried to upgrade to XP-Pro. The sales/technician person at Dell talked me out of making this upgrade. Was it a mistake to allow myself to be talked out of the upgrade?

When I call Dell they completely ignore the question of upgrading to XP-Pro. For some reason they refuse to address this question. Once we get over the language barrier (don’t they have Palms (PDAs) in India?) the technicians try to help, but are unsuccessful. We get to a point where they either transfer me to someone who will help with the problem and get disconnected or they say that I have to pay Customer Care to have my problem solved?

Hopefully someone has been able to solve this problem and can offer some advice

Try checking the Palm forums on www.brighthand.com. Search for "Palm Media Center Edition". There are suggested steps to get things working but they don't work for everyone. Unfortunately Palm states on their website they don't support Media Center Edition.

I'm having similar problems.  I just purchased a Palm Treo 700p and I have a Insprion 6000 Media Center.  I can add my laptop to my phone as a trusted device.  When I go to sync, It says connecting to my laptop, it connects, but than nothing.  When you sync there are three icons on the Palm screen, it just sits there on the first icon for about two minutes and comes back with an error.  I setup a virtural serial port as the client.  I was not able to link the two devices when the virtural serial port was setup as server.  Can anyone help.  It would stink if I can't sync via Bluetooth.  This is why I got the bluetooth option on my laptop.
