Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG
Dear all,
I have the above wireless card in my laptop, which doesn't work, and after having read many forum posts relating to this and how the power management options could make it unstable, I still cannot get it to work.
I'm running XP Home, I've tried different drivers, followed the options to change the power settings in Device Manager etc... The card either connects, then fails after trying to browse the internet / won't turn on at all / sees a network, then loses it, and won't see any other networks / when trying to browse the options in device manager - crashes explorer.
Is there any fix for this circulating? If not, can anyone advise where I can buy a different wireless card for my laptop?
I do acually have 3 years NBD warranty, but kept being told there is nothing wrong with the card - despite the numerous forum posts, and that it is probably my installation of windows (funny how my external USB wireless adaptor works fine).
Can anyone, please, help? I cannot believe Dell have just ignored this problem - is this one of the reasons why HP/Acer are gaining market share?

I am having similar problems, although mine did work for a while. I have a Vostro 1500 with XP Pro and aside from some puzzlingly sluggish aspects, everything was working ok. However every once in a while the wireless card would just disconnect itself from whatever network it was on, and any ttempt to reconnect would just be met with "Problem applying profile"
The only way to rectify this was to shut down and reboot, as any attempt to go into network connections or to make an alteration in device manager would result in the laptop freezing. Then recently a shut down didn't fix this problem and after many attempts I finally uninstalled PROset and disabled the wireless adapter. On re-enabling it the wireless speeds have become atrociously slow.
Constant disconnects when playing a game online/chatting, an overall drop in webpage loading time (it took just over 3 minutes for this page to load), constant buffering on streaming media, 10 minute waits for Youtube videos to load, a deterioration in receptionetc. Yet when I go to speedtest.com I see that the laptop still has the same speed as is being detected on my desktop, where there are no problems. Which means something is definitely wrong with the wireless card. However Dell support keep telling me nothing is wrong with it. Sigh.
Sorry the reply doesn't exactly help you, but I'm hoping someone knows what's going on with either of our systems.

Hello,
Im my case, the fix appears to have been a new motherboard. All is working fine now ... maybe a dodgy set?
