Sorry to get your hopes up by my reply, but I'm wondering the exact same thing. But unfortunately for me, not only cannot I disable the intelligent display in Linux, I can't disable it in windows 8.1 either!
On linux I've installed CCC and disabled intellibright, but it doesn't work.
On a fresh windows 8.1 install I've installed the AMD stuff as well as the dell quickset application. However, after going to sleep I have to enable and then re-disable the intelligent display options to shut it off again EVERY TIME.
What's wrong with dell intelligent display, and why is it so hard for us to turn it off? Does dell need to issue a BIOS update or something to fix this?
I had the same problem with my screen. I installed the new Dell firmware (A07) today (27/09/2014) and this issue was resolved.
First, I created a bootable usb stick with Freedos. Follow this page to create yours ~> . http://chtaube.eu/computers/freedos/bootable-usb/
After, you have to copy the firmware file to your usb stick with freedos. You can download file at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=XFFJX
Finally, reboot your laptop using the usb stick and execute the firmware file.

Agree. It would be nice if Dell made a BIOS update and added an option in BIOS menu to disable it or made this feature disabled by default.
